Musings about Donald Trump (1)

"But remember this: You are the most powerful group in this country. But you have to realize that. You have to band together... "Donald Trump (June 22, 2016, closed meeting with evangelical leaders)

Over the last ten years, I have considered and focused my thoughts on the presidency of Donald Trump. And as I journaled  and looked into the life of King Saul from many sources,  the Holy Spirit gave me the following for you to consider:

God answered the many prayers offered before the 2016 election. Prayer meetings were called, and from the pulpit, the warning was to “vote for the one closest to the Bible.” God granted their hearts’ desire, but He knew the disunity it would bring.

Donald Trump- At first, a spirit of humiliation- Compare Saul- 1 Sam 10:12

A prophet must pray from the depths of a wounded spirit, agonizing as he reflects on the wickedness of His children. (Selected)

We sinned by choosing a president by the people's will, not God's grace.

We cannot see hearts, but we can judge principles and observe conduct.

The election did not unite the Church or lead our nation to become godlier; it was a stumbling block that led to backsliding.

What was lacking was a prophet like Samuel. He asked the counsel of God before replying to the people. He did not show the people what a king should be, but what he would be.

The Church set its heart on Trump and was willing to risk the consequences. They had already decided and would not heed counsel or warning. The passions of their cause will lead to a decade of darkness. Is it too late to retrace our steps to secure pardon and salvation? Proverbs 1:20-33

Donald Trump has the qualities of a businessman. He has another heart, but not a new heart. He shows leadership qualities, but there is no evidence of holy living. As a professing born-again believer, he must experience a renewed heart, with proof.

Saul had the privilege of having a counselor who knew the mind of the Lord.

Saul had “another heart” to seek a new heart. Did God give President Trump another heart?

The engagement between God, the president, and the evangelicals was solemn. God never fails to fulfill His part. On the other hand, the evangelicals are responsible for keeping their part.

Donald Trump had the respect of the evangelicals but not the favor of God.

The enthusiasm for the president has waned; his influence has perverted the mind.

The relationship between Donald Trump and the Church will continue to deteriorate painfully. A spiritual disconnect will become evident. A call to separate will be heard among the remnants. Then a final rebuke will be rendered as God’s chastisement prepares to descend upon our nation. It will be a stunning blow to the pride of the Church and the leader it has embraced: “Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord….” A significant number of evangelicals continue to downplay their sin, thus remaining unable to escape the charge of disobedience to the Word.

It is a poor attempt to shift blame. Aaron tried it at the foot of Sinai, and Donald Trump will do it at the expense of the evangelicals who have supported him. He does not fear people. Instead, he will continue to use the will of the people as his scapegoat.
